503Five - The 503Five is a group of five currently unproduced playwrights, selected from hundreds of the country’s most exciting voices. In the inaugural year of Theatre503′s first ever commissioning awards, the selected writers were resident with us for a year, writing for us, learning with us and inspiring us. They were Richard Marsh, Rex Obano, Lou Ramsden, Nimer Rashed and Beth Steel. Short plays from the 503Five have been staged as part of All I Want For Christmas and Decade. In January 2009, Rex Obano was the first of the 503Five to have their full length play produced at Theatre503 with his play Slaves. Since then we have produced and staged Wild Horses by Nimer Rashed and Breed by Lou Ramsden. Meanwhile Beth Steel’s play Ditch and Richard Marsh’s piece for Coalition at 503 have been further developed outside of the building.

We are currently processing the applications for 503Five 2012.

Applications for the 503Five 2012 have now closed. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted in the last week of November.

Foundations - Foundations nights are an opportunity for invited playwrights to try out new material in front of an audience. These evenings are currently on hold.

Writers’ Nights - Theatre503 holds regular Writers’ Nights during our main house productions. They are usually on the first Wednesday of each shows run. Playwrights can benefit from reduced tickets to the show, the chance to meet other writers and members of the 503 team, and the opportunity to chat about their own plays or 503 and it’s initiatives. To get onto the mailing list for writers’ nights you can find the details in the Get Involved section of this website.

Rapid Write Response - In the first week of a show’s run, we invite playwrights to see the show and submit to us their own responses to the play on stage.  From these submissions we choose a selection to be performed as part of our Rapid Write Response evening. Join our writers’ mailing list for details.
